There is a crack in everything, that is how the light gets in and that is where resurrection is. That is where the return, the repentance is the brokenness allows the light to enter.
Leonard Cohen singer of my childhood said the above in one of his interviews November 2016
My introduction to Greece, as an Alexandrian Greek, took place when I was a child, but of many tongues and continents. The Greek islands were my summers, bathed by the Phosphorescent blazing light on a white wall, the austere rocks, the dramatic mountains and the incandescence of the blue sky pouring into the sea. Under that light and the songs of Leonard ,nostalgia took hold of me, at first like the ship of Ulysses Nostos as I began to learn how to word my emotions in this ancient tongue.
This was a voyage into the light as I managed to escape my personal darkness and the various Labyrinths of my subconscious mind. In fact, I was finding a way to freedom through words.
Freedom, or Eleutheria, in my tongue (means she who walks freely towards what she or he loves and brings love to his or her soul, because the chains are many and not always tangible to escape from.
In this moment I realized that my tongue embodied my spiritual essence. It is not surprising that everything here in Greece speaks now as it has for centuries making everything clear -without being known. It is this clarity that I return to within me to understand what is unknown as we go through these difficult times. As I write the word clarity, or diavgis -avgi, everything becomes translucent like the morning dawn as the ancient God Apollo with his chariot announces the arrival of light .
For we Greeks love the sun and the light, the Ancient God Apollo protected the fine Arts and music but his name means the strong sacred defender who protects.
For we know somehow that the real danger is the darkness within. Our inability to see or recognize our own inner darkness keeps us from finding our way back to the light as fully conscious human
Human in my tongue anthropos a Linear B word of the Bronze Age era of Greece,Plato explained he who proceeds looking up towards the light, the God, the Truth.
These past few weeks as a sense of great grief took hold of me I needed more light, so I returned to my first encounter of light and God embodied that I had ever seen.
There is very little beauty in art today that does not have a glimpse of visual understanding of the Ancient Greek sculptors. The word beauty describes what has nice shape and symmetry.
Much of todays modern notions, sensibilities such as Democracy are Greek words of those who looked up escaping their darkness seeking reason.
Something we must also not neglect to oversee, is the innovative and revolutionary spirit salient characteristics of Western civilazation from the renaisance.
Renaisance (Anagenisi to be born again)
If we are to shed light to the present and to look beyond this abyss, lets do so with love, the Agape love that guides all of us to love one another, no matter who we are as one global people. This is a perfect time to practice Agape love, allowing the light in for all our relations. As we allow the light -Phos -to envelope us, we come out of our dark cave of fear, ignorance and all the chains holding us down. It will not be the first time!
